CRI 2020 Covid-19 Update

Teams, Volunteers and Community Members,

It is with great sadness we have to announce the cancellation of the Chicago Robotics Invitational for the 2020 Summer. We had held off as long as we could to give the event a chance to continue to be played, however we feel it is incredibly unlikely we are going to be able to hold the event as is right now. We are just as disappointed as you all are with this unfortunate decision, however we hold the safety of our team members, mentors, volunteers, and community first and we do not want to jeopardize that.

We received a record number of applications for our event this year, and we’re incredibly sad we cannot go through with what was appearing to be the biggest and best CRI to date. We hope all of our 50 applicant teams can carry this enthusiasm into their future seasons and a future CRI event, and we will be happy to welcome you all back to Francis Parker whenever that may be.
This week, FIRST announced the replaying of the 2020 FIRST Robotics Competition game for the 2021 season. As such, we will wait for an official announcement in relation to the FIRST Tech Challenge until we can make a more formal decision about a replanned Skystone CRI or a 2021 CRI. No matter the decision that FIRST makes with the future season, we look forward to holding CRI - whether it be for Skystone or the next season - as soon as it is safe to do so. We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe in this time, and we look forward to a time we can meet again as a FIRST family.
Sincerely,
Devyn and Nathan
Chicago Robotics Invitational Coordinators
