OUR ROBOT: TOOTHLESS
Toothless, our not-so-fishy but fish-friendly underwater robot, celebrates its first birthday! This milestone also marks the five-year anniversary of our R.O.V. team, established in 2018. Over the years, our team has designed and built many variations of Toothless—once known as Shelby, Dory, and other names. Today, Toothless stands as a testament to the hard work, trials, and innovations of all our past robots. It is a sleek, two-podded, neon-green acrylic machine with impressive row and tow capabilities.
OUR FLOAT: SEASHOCKER
This year’s FLOAT robot is named SeaShocker. It was a stormy night when we first stumbled upon it, half-submerged on the shore, its sleek plastic body glistening in the moonlight. At first, we thought it was just a pile of debris, but then a sudden jolt of electricity surged through the air—a sign. We rushed to it, and to our surprise, SeaShocker was not just a forgotten piece of technology but a unique robot, abandoned but still filled with potential. We took it in, giving it new life after its weary journey from last year’s competition (2022-2023). After a deep analysis, we decided to repair and improve it, believing that with the right touch, it could rise to meet this year’s challenge like never before.
We worked together to rewire the robot and made its internal components more organized to reduce clutter. This allowed us to optimize space and functionality for more efficient performance. Additionally, we adapted SeaShocker to meet this year's challenge, focusing on integrating advanced coding to enhance its operational capabilities. By improving both the hardware and the software, SeaShocker is ready to tackle new underwater challenges with precision and reliability

ABOUT SUBAQUATIC SOLUTIONS Francis W. Parker's Subaquatic Solutions is a diverse and multi-grade Robotics Team that is mostly made up of students with no prior robotics experience. Our 2024-2025 team consists of freshman to senior students who are creative, innovative, and love to experiment and learn.
In preparation for the MATE ROV Regional Competition in April, we’ve spent the last year designing, building, and coding components to modify our Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) from previous years. This year, we’ve focused on creating and printing 3D thruster covers, building a frame on a laser cutter, making props, soldering, and more. |

ABOUT MATE Marine Advanced Technology Education Center, aka MATE, uses marine technology to inspire and challenge students to learn and creatively apply scientific, engineering, and technical skills to solving real-world problems. The MATE ROV Competition challenges K-12, community college, and university students from all over the world to tackle missions based on scenarios from the workplace, encouraging students to work together, network, and learn from technical professionals and each other.
